For this year’s Record Store Day, we are extremely proud to present an exciting collection of top quality Jamaican ska sounds, originally intended for release over half a century ago.
Trojan Jamaican R&b Box Set Songs
First scheduled to be issued in 1966 by leading Afro-Jamaican music specialists, R&B Records, ‘The Ska (From Jamaica)’ album remained lost for well over half a century before the ¼” master tape was finally discovered in the Trojan archives earlier this year
Comprising a dozen top quality tracks that originally saw issue in the UK as 7” singles on the venerated Ska Beat label, the collection features numerous musical talents now widely regarded as Jamaican legends, their number including the Maytals, Ken Boothe, Clancy Eccles, Derrick Harriott, Glen Brown and Roy Shirley.
In 2019, musicians Zak Starkey and Sharna “Sshh” Liguz launched the Trojan Jamaica record label, in partnership with BMG. The label’s critically-acclaimed debut offering, Red, Gold, Green & Blue, was a compilation of classic American soul, r&b, and blues tunes, as interpreted by legendary Jamaican reggae artists. The Trojan Box Set series is a range of various artist triple CD box sets, periodically released by the British reggae record label Trojan Records since 1998. TROJAN JAMAICAN R&B BOX SET (TJETD042) - Trojan's successful series of 3-disc boxed sets has offered almost the whole gamut of Jamaican music over the last few years; the hits, the misses, the skinhead dance tunes, the deep Rasta anthems and much more. Now compiler Lawrence Cane-Honeysett has dived even deeper into the vaults and emerged, dusty but triumphant, with a 50-track selection of. Overseen in partnership with Zak Starkey and Sharna 'Sshh' Liguz, Trojan Jamaica arrives with a mandate to explore Jamaica's diverse musical legacy, from its African roots to the endless inspiration of classic and contemporary American soul, R&B and blues.
The album comes presented in a stylishly designed sleeve, and includes an annotated insert, relating the story behind the discovery of the long-lost tape and the music featured therein.
With almost all of all 12 tracks officially unavailable on vinyl for decades,‘The Ska (From Jamaica)’ is a must for all fans of the ever-popular ska sound as well as those simply wishing to acquire a unique piece of Jamaican music history.
The LP will be available from all participating Record Store Day record shops on Saturday 29th April.
